I don't recall seeing any extraordinarily beautiful children there, but it was rather late in the evening for children to be wandering about a burned-out exhibition huilding. I can't find a reference in that chapter to the "child of unearthly beauty", but I am fairly sure that it was the Great Exhibition in The Crystal Palace where he saw this creature. He was nineteen years old.
