US Embassy Tehran Siege 1979

I very, very strongly suspect that these events are connected directly with the siege of the Iranian Embassy in London, which ended with one key member of the Iranian embassy staff and all but one of the terrorists being shot dead, and the embassy being burned down. I think that Iranian embassy staff in London had come into possession, or were believed to have come into possession of evidence of evidence of some kind concerning US and/or British relations with the former government of the Shah, very probably going back to at least the CIA-organised coup d'etat in 1953 which was carried out essentially at the request of the Anglo Persian Oil Company, later known as British Petroleum.

As to the assertion that there was nothing that his contact in the ministry of education could have disclosed to him: that statement requires corroboration. See Ben Eater on Running a Breadboard at 1MHz.
