You had people like Luca Cardelli at Microsoft Research Cambridge doing work on stochastic Pi Calculus. That can model very complex systems of biochemical reactions as well as animal populations and one would hope to be able to at least describe some of the _possible_ effects of mass flu innoculation on viral evolution, as well as the effects of isolating populations like soldiers in barracks or convicts in prisons with viral infection. This is interesting because of the way the 1918 Spanish Flu appeared in confined populations. I remember Cardelli giving a great talk on stochastic Pi calculus around 2008. This is an interesting discussion. What most people don't realise is that capitalism as we practice it now wastes 99.9% of the human and material resources we currently use. He will presumably say that this is human nature and because it is genetically determined, nothing we can do short of a programme of eugenics and euthenasia will change that.
